Check your chicken, America. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a massive recall of ready-to-eat chicken because it was not quite ready to eat. The poultry in question — nearly 2 million pounds of it — may have been undercooked.

The recall concerns products manufactured between August 20 and November 30 by National Steak & Poultry, a company based in Owasso, Oklahoma. The announcement expands on an initial recall of more than 17,000 pounds of undercooked chicken, which dates to November 23, 2016.
The list of brands affected by the recall include Hormel, Shaker Valley Foods, and Magnifoods, along with chicken products packaged under the name National Steak & Poultry (NSP). The USDA has a complete list of recalled products.
To check if your ready-to-eat chicken is included in the recall, look for the USDA mark of inspection. Affected products will have the establishment code P-6010T.
From the USDA’s news release: “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
Although no illnesses have been reported, the concern with undercooked poultry is that potentially harmful bacteria survive the cooking process.
